Smart Hong Kong Pavilion at the InnoEX 2024

The Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau (ITIB) organised the Business of Innovation and Technology Week in April, which included the government-funded innovation and technology (I&T) signature events, the Digital Economy Summit jointly organised by the ITIB, the then Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) and the Hong Kong Cyberport on 12 and 13 April, and the InnoEX 2024 jointly organised by the ITIB and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council from 13 to 16 April. The then OGCIO showcased over 100 I&T solutions including those developed by different government departments benefitting citizens’ daily lives, and demonstrated Hong Kong’s accomplishment in advancing the I&T development and smart city development which is the fruit of the concerted efforts of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and various sectors.

The Pavilion, focusing on Artificial Intelligence, featured six smart areas namely, "Smart Living", "Smart Mobility", "Smart Environment", "Smart People", "Smart Government" and "Smart Economy", and showcased innovative solutions adopted by more than 20 government bureaux and departments and a series of winning entries of the “Hong Kong ICT Awards”, “Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards”, “ 'Maker in China' SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest - Hong Kong Chapter” and the “Open Data Hackathon” from local innovators and students. Through interactive experience and live demonstration, we hope to pool together various sectors and Government departments to encourage exchanges and co-operation, so as to further promote the adoption of more I&T solutions by government departments with a view to continuously enhancing public services for the benefit of the public and businesses. Through the exhibition, we also commended exemplary innovations of local industry and inspired industry players to develop more innovative applications, and thus further propelling Hong Kong into an international I&T centre.

Highlights of six exhibition areas:

The Pavilion, focusing on Artificial Intelligence, featured six smart areas namely, Smart Living, Smart Mobility, Smart Environment, Smart People, Smart Government and Smart Economy OGCIO showcased over 100 innovative solutions adopted by more than 20 government bureaux and departments and a series of winning entries of the “Hong Kong ICT Awards”, “Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards”, “ 'Maker in China' SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest - Hong Kong Chapter” and the “Open Data Hackathon” from local innovators and students. Smart Living, Exhibit Name:“iAM Smart”. iAM Smart, the one-stop personalised digital service platform of the OGCIO, provides reliable electronic identity authentication function for members of the public to log in and use various online services. As at March 2024, 340 government, public and private online services are accessible through the platform, including SmartPLAY, eHealth, eTAX, renewal of vehicle licences, Contactless e-Channel and I-RemindU, etc. Smart Living - Smart Healthcare, Exhibit Name: Digitalised Herbarium on Chinese Medicines. The Government Chinese Medicines Testing Institute is digitalising the physical specimens of Chinese medicinal materials (CMM) to create their high-definition digital images and is establishing traceability between CMM and their species origins by scientific analysis. The Department of Health will showcase the world-class platform which provides an user-friendly interface for users to better understand the various aspects of Chinese Medicine (CM) and enhances their interest in CM.  A virtual reality tour will be set up at the Pavilion for visitors to experience. Smart Mobility, Exhibit Name: Real-time Adaptive Traffic Signal System in Tung Chung. The Transport Department utilises sensors to detect and analyse pedestrian and traffic flows in real time, optimising the allocation of green times to facilitate pedestrians and vehicles and reduce delays. Smart Environment, Exhibit Name: 5G Mesh Network Multi-terrain Sampling Robot Squad. The Environmental Protection Department will showcase its first 5G robot squad. Multiple robots are interconnected through a 5G mesh network to carry out pollution investigation in tough environment, for enhancing efficiency and ensuring the safety of investigators. Smart People, Exhibit Name: Braillie Learning App. A tertiary student who won the gold medal in the Guangzhou / Hong Kong / Macao / Chengdu Youth Skills Competition will introduce the Braille Learning App created by him. It is aimed to enable users to simulate the experience of reading Braille on a tablet, to foster the public’s understanding of Braille and promote inclusion of the visually impaired. The Pavilion also showcased I&T winning entries from various primary and secondary schools. Smart Government, Exhibit Name: Patrol Robot. The Hong Kong Police Force’s first patrol robot can automatically patrol according to preset routes and has a video recording function to help police officers appreciate the circumstances at scene for operational deployment. The robot is scheduled to undergo field test in the second quarter of 2024, and it will be exhibited first to give everyone a sneak peek. Smart Government, Exhibit Name: “Catch the Innovation” Campaign“Innovative Application with AI”Innovation Competition. To encourage government colleagues to propose more innovative solutions that enhance public services, the OGCIO organised the competition in June last year, inviting government personnel to submit proposals for enhancing public services with AI. Ten finalist proposals were matched with technology solutions from the industry (including local start-ups) by the Smart Government Innovation Lab of the OGCIO for a six-month proof-of-concept exercise. The ten winning proof-of-concept solutions showcased in the Pavilion. Smart Economy, Exhibit Name: krip HK. The platform, through a fully integrated deals data API ecosystem, connects consumers with merchants and card issuers to provide personalised deals information for the Hong Kong retail industry.
