Business Needs / Challenges

The department needs to process different types of application (around 4,000 applications annually) and related supporting documents (such as certificates and photos).

Despite the department is using an existing workflow system to handle the applications, but manual human efforts and processing time are spending on applications through handwritten paper forms, e.g. verification on accurateness, checking of completeness, etc. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) with Artificial Intelligence (AI) could assist the department to minimise the human efforts throughout the application handling process.

Expected Outcomes

With the use of OCR and RPA with AI, some of the manual tasks could be automated to shorten the application processing time by extracting the data automatically and providing suggestion after information checking. Also, it is expected that the solution can reduce human error when processing the application and resulted in shorter application processing time.
